Provincial police raid Montreal police HQ for allegations of fraud, breach of trust

The Quebec provincial police raided Montreal’s police headquarters on Thursday evening in connection with fraud and breach of trust allegations against a high ranking officer.

According to CBC, the Sûreté du Québec is investigating Montreal Chief Philippe Pichet’s chief of staff, Imad Sawaya, for fraud involving overtime hours and bonuses.

Sûreté du Québec ‘s mixed squad, which specializes in internal affairs investigations, are involved with the current investigation.

The SQ also conducted searches at the Montreal police archives, a local police station and a municipal building.

According to Pichet, Sawaya has not been arrested and Montreal police will cooperate with SQ for the duration of the investigation.
