Parc Safari zoo near Montreal opens this weekend

Montreal’s concrete jungle features squirrels, chipmunks, and pigeons. None of whom really have the same effect of a lion’s roar.

Starting this weekend however, the king of the jungle can be seen up close and personal with a swift drive over the bridge to the gorgeous, Hemmingford Quebec.

Parc Safari opens its gates to their 46th season this weekend and they’ve got over 500 animals, exciting rides, and fun activities to keep you going back all summer long.

The park starts off with the Safari Adventure where you can get close to exotic animals like never before. While driving to the main park entrance, the optional Safari Adventure allows for the more docile but equally large animals to check you out in your car.

Oh, how the tables have turned.

Animals on the Safari Adventure include buffalo, zebras, llamas, gazelles, ostriches, deer, peacocks, and camels. You’re encouraged to feed and pet the animals during the low-speed trek and you’ll always want to keep your windshield wipers handy. Your car can get a touch dirty but it’s worth it.

Once inside the park, you’re free to explore the massive playground at your own leisure.

Check out The Reptilium Pavilion to get your fix of snakes, chameleons, iguanas, alligators, and spiders.

The enchanted Deer Trail allows you to pet and feed spotted deer up close and the Lion’s Tunnel and Tiger Haven has enclosed, glass tunnels that let you walk scarily close to the majestic felines.

The Forest Trail is an elevated walkway that gives onlookers a gorgeous vantage point looking down on monkeys, hyenas, cheetahs, wolves, and bears.

Safari Expedition boards you on an M35 truck where a professional driver and zoologist give you an up-close encounter with giraffes, rhinoceroses, and elephants.

Since May and June are considered to be the park’s low-season, admission prices are very moderately priced. Children under 2 are given free access, kids are charged $10 to enter, adults are $25 and seniors are $20. Season passes are also available at a discount during low season.

Enjoy the thrills of the safari and the jungle while having the luxury of keeping your passport at home – those city squirrels won’t bother you in Montreal anymore once you return from the safari.
