Montreal opens outdoor walk-in clinic at Place des Festivals

Mar 23 2020, 4:08 pm

The area at Place des Festivals which normally hosts Montreal’s jazz fest is now a temporary outdoor walk-in clinic to test for COVID-19.

The site is accessible by foot and SPVM officers are on-site to ensure people maintain safe distancing.

Unlike other spots, the Place des Festivals allows people to show up without an appointment.

According to the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, only people with the following criteria will be tested:

  • Anyone who has recently travelled outside of Canada
  • People are close to confirmed cases
  • People who have symptoms including fever, cough, and difficulties breathing

According to the CIUSSS, the site will increase the city’s testing capability to up to 2,500 tests per day.

The testing centre has 30 screening stations in heated tents and 125 staff members. It will be open daily from 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week.

People are asked to dress warmly, bring their ID and medicare card, and “respect the distance of one metre per person” in line.

People screened for coronavirus, whether positive or negative, will be notified with results within 48 to 72 hours.
