The cold didn’t stop thousands of Montrealers from flocking to Ste. Catherine Street for the city’s 196th edition of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Despite looking like springtime, temperatures felt as low as -13ºC yesterday afternoon — nothing a bit of Irish whiskey couldn’t fix.
The parade featured over 30 floats, 2,500 participants, 15 marching bands and 300 volunteers. It took off at from its usual spot at Fort Street and ended at Metcalfe Street.

The United Irish Societies of Montreal has been organizing the parade every year in the city since 1824.
It’s not every year that ‘parade day’ lands on St. Patrick’s Day, so yesterday’s festivities were a treat. Take that, cold.
Here’s what Instagram looked like this morning as we tackle the workweek after a day full of Irish dancing, music and a wee bit of booze. Cheers to greasy poutines for being the real champions today.
