Montreal police warning of fake posts circulating social media about sexual assault

Montreal police are warning about fake social media posts claiming SPVM is sending out an alert about sexual assault.

The post, which is making rounds on Facebook, states that a young boy claiming to be lost approaches women and lures them to a location where they will be sexually assaulted.

Attention ladies! If you are walking from home, school, or anywhere, and you come across a little boy crying and asking you to take him to an address he has on a piece of paper. Do knot take him there!!!!! Take him straight to the police department! This is a new way of gang rape.The incident is getting worse by the day. Warn your families and friends! This is in the in Montreal and Laval area. Reblog this message! Please make sure you share!!!!

The post has the SPVM emblem on it as well as the City of Montreal logo. However, police have confirmed this is false information.

“This message is false. No cases of this nature have been reported on the island of Montreal,” said SPVM on Facebook.

“We Invite you to be very cautious and verify the provenance of such a message before broadcasting it to your contacts.”
