A 23-year-old man has died after he was shot in the early hours of Friday morning in the West Island.

In a phone call with Daily Hive, Constable Véronique Comtois of the SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal) said investigators of the major crimes unit are on the scene to better understand what happened.

Officers were called to Gouin Boulevard in Pierrefonds close to 1 am after a witness saw a car crash into a fence.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they report tending to the driver who sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to the hospital where he died just after 7:30 am. The driver’s 23-year-old  passenger was uninjured and not taken to hospital.

Police have not identified a motive for the murder and said that the suspect fled the scene.

According to Comtois, this is Montreal’s eighth homicide of 2020.
