A 78-year-old woman was transported to hospital with an injury to her upper body after getting stabbed on the metro’s Green Line on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the SPVM, police received a call at 4:30 pm after an elderly woman was stabbed with a “sharp object” at Assomption metro station in Montreal.
The suspect, a 45-year-old man, is now in police custody after fleeing the scene, said SPVM spokesperson Emmanuel Couture.

Witnesses t0ld Montreal police there did not seem to be a conflict between the two before the stabbing took place.
The 78-year-old woman is in stable condition.
Service on the STM’s Green Line was halted while the police investigated and resumed by 6:15 pm.

The SPVM says the suspect’s motive is still unknown.
