5 things to do in Montreal today: Wednesday, May 30

May 30 2018, 2:48 am

We already made it to Wednesday!

If you’re in the mood for some music we’ve got two concerts coming at you: one heavy, one light. There are Fringe Festival events, literature options, and more – enjoy Hump Day!

Slayer

Slayer is a thrash/heavy metal band from California. They’ve been together since 1981 and have built up a pretty impressive following within the music industry. They’re performing at Place Bell in Laval tonight with guests: Lamb of God, Anthrax, Testament, and Behemoth.

When: Wednesday, May 30

Time: Doors at 4 pm, show at 5 pm

Where: Place Bell, Laval

Tickets: $61.25 to $92.50 – available online

Charlotte Cardin

If Slayer is too much for you, set your eyes and ears to Charlotte Cardin. Cardin is a Canadian jazz, electro and pop singer/songwriter from Montreal. She’s bringing her stunning voice to the Sainte-Thérèse d’Avila Church before she sets off for Toronto and then the States for the rest of her North American tour. Check her out, as her hit ‘Main Girl’ has over 7 million views on YouTube.

When: Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday, May 31

Time: Doors at 7 pm, show at 8 pm

Where: 10 Rue de l’Eglise, Sainte-Therese

Tickets: $33 to $80 – available online

Bar Loïc

If you’re not feeling a concert, head to Loïc’s terrace. Loïc is an über cool wine bar located in St. Henri. The decor is gorgeous (it’s located in an old bank) and the food is tasty enough to question if wine really is their specialty. They also make very tempting cocktails.

It’s a nice day today, so sit out on Loïc’s terrace. It’s green, gorgeous, and right in the middle of the St. Henri buzz. Grab some wine, try their mouthwatering cheeseburger, and enjoy the sun.

When: Loïc’s terrace is open from 5 pm to 11 pm

Where: 5001 Rue Notre Dame Ouest

Drunk Bridesmaids

A group of local Montreal actors are doing a live script read of the movie Bridesmaids as part of Montreal’s Fringe Festival. Except they’ll be getting drunk while doing so. The actors will be drinking during the play and they urge the audience to do the same. They welcome drinks from the audience members as well. It’s going to be hilarious. Actors doing a script read of Kristin Wiig while drinking? Awesome.

All proceeds from the play will be donated to charity. Latecomers welcome.

When: Wednesday, May 30

Time: 8 pm – 10 pm

Where: 3997 Rue Saint-Laurent, Mainline Theatre

Tickets: $10 minimum – available at the door an hour before showtime

Book Fair at the Grande Bibliothèque

The Grande Bibliothèque of Montreal is having a massive book sale market. Over 25,000 books and CDs will be available for purchase in both English and French. The majority of books will sell between $1 to $2 with some bigger picture books going for $10. Use the inexpensive books as an excuse to check out Montreal’s biggest library and amazing art pieces.

When: May 30 until July 2

Time: 10 am to 5 pm

Where: 475 Boulevard de Maisonneuve Est
