As if this weekend’s Osheaga festival didn’t bring enough tunes, today’s events are headlined by the Smashing Pumpkins at the Bell Centre. Besides even more music, there are plenty of events to keep you busy today, August 7, as we already start to eye the middle of the week.

The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band from Chicago formed in 1988. Billy Corgan and Co. smash their way onto the Bell Centre stage tonight as part of their “Shiny and Oh So Bright” tour.

Shakespeare in Westmount Park

The untraditional rendition of Shakespeare is happening at Wesmount Park tonight, rain or shine.  The long-running outdoor theatre event is celebrating its 30th year and takes on a Shakespearean classic this time around in the form of Romeo & Juliet: Love is Love. It’s a contemporary, gender-bent take on the classic love story.

Guests are urged to bring their own chairs or may rent one on site for $5.

Honey Martin Trivia

Honey Martin is a cozy Irish Pub in NDG that hosts arguably the best pub trivia in town. They do six rounds of ten questions. A winner is rewarded each round with either a round of drinks or a round of shots. A round for a round – solid deal. The questions are all general knowledge and the trivia host is interactive and funny. Buy him a shot and he’ll go easy on you.

The Shaika Shakeup

Cafe Shaika hosts the Shaika Shakeup every Tuesday in the summer. The Shakeup is an open mic comedy show that features up and coming comedians and seasoned vets working on new bits or old jokes. It’s a comfortable cafe in a busy neighbourhood, minutes away from Vendome metro and easily accessible by bike/bus.

Plus they have carrot cake.

Rogers Cup

With qualifiers all done, the first round of the Women’s bracket of the Rogers Cup gets underway at the gorgeous IGA Stadium.
