Welcome back to the workweek, Montreal. In case you forgot what Mondays feel like, it’s this. But you needn’t worry, there’s a bunch of great stuff happening in the city today, September 10, as we start that long trek towards the weekend.

YUL EAT

You can’t cap off a summer’s worth of festivals without YUL EAT.

The YUL EAT festival, the biggest food event in the city, starts today and offers over 40 restaurant outlets and food trucks from all over Montreal. Foodies have a chance to discover local grub and dishes they’ve never tried before, on a huge scale.

New to the festival’s 5th anniversary, festival-goers will have a chance to attend live cooking masterclasses from some of the city’s most respected and renowned chefs.

Obviously, the food costs money, but the festival is free to enter.

Gardens of Light

September means it’s that time of year when Montreal’s botanical gardens light up for the
magical Gardens of Light Festival. The festival started on Friday and will light up the Botanical Garden until October.

The lantern festival includes a lighted path through the Botanical Garden’s three cultural gardens, The Chinese, Japanese and First Nations Gardens, all looking at nature from a different perspective.

When: September 7 – October 31

World Press Photo Exhibition

The 13th annual World Press Photo Exhibition in Montreal showcases some of the most prestigious photographs from around the world. This year, 73,500 photos from 125 different countries will headline the exhibition.

Price: $11 for students, $14 general admission, free for kids under 12

Encore Books & Records

Encore Books & Records is a cozy, family-run bookshop that sells and buys used books and records. The store is crammed from the floor-to-ceiling and they’re boasting good prices today to start the school year.

Head into Encore and grab yourself a cheap book, find a nice park (Girouard Park is right out front of the shop) or patio, and get lost in a little bit of literature.

McKibbin’s Pub Stumpers

Test your trivia knowledge at McKibbin’s Irish Pub. The pub’s trivia has 5 rounds; general knowledge, multiple choice, short answer, a picture round, and a music round. The winner of each round receives free drinks or a round of shots. A round for a round – good trade.
