Montreal public health has confirmed that a 19-year-old has died due to complications from COVID-19.

Santé Montreal says the death is Quebec’s first under 20-year-old victim since the pandemic began.

In a phone call with Santé Montreal, a spokesperson confirmed the death with Daily Hive but said they couldn’t release the gender, exact date of death, or district the victim belonged to, due to the province’s health privacy law.

No further details pertaining to how long the victim was suffering from the virus was released.

As of today, the number of coronavirus cases in citizens under 30 throughout Montreal is 20.7%, according to Montreal public health.

Santé Montreal said there have been no COVID-19-related deaths in children (under the age of 18) in Canada since the start of the pandemic.
