Just For Laughs announces first wave of comedians for this year's virtual fest

The Just For Laughs festival has comedians for the 2020 edition.

While the laugh-a-thon will continue to bring the laughs this year, it will be much different from years past because of you-know-what.

The fest will be held on JFL’s new online portal from October 9 and October 10, while its sister festival, Just pour rire, will virtually take place from September 29 to October 10.

And what’s best? Both digital festivals are completely free.

While people and performers won’t be filling up Montreal’s streets, the JFL crew says they have worked “tirelessly” to create a comedy experience that combines several forms of comedy.

The festival won’t follow its usual path of solo stand-up comedy and will instead consist of live virtual panels and group discussions about comedy, designed specifically for “online audiences,” according to Just For Laughs.

The first wave of comedians and guests have been announced, with plenty more on the way, according to JFL.

Until then, here’s who will be part of live discussions and panels, from the comfort of your own home:

  • Howie Mandel
  • Hannah Gadsby
  • Jo Koy
  • Sarah Cooper
  • Kenya Barris
  • Amber Ruffin
  • Tituss Burgess
  • Nicole Byer
  • Trixie Mattel
  • Deanne Smith

This will be the first time in JFL’s 38-year history that the festival won’t take place during the summer months.
