Hydro-Québec reveals financial measures to ease coronavirus "difficulties"

Mar 16 2020, 9:13 pm

Hydro-Québec has announced financial measures to make life a bit easier for its customers.

For clients “who could experience financial difficulties” in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the utility company says it will not cut off power to any customers, whether residential or business.

“The suspension of service interruptions, which lasts from December 1 to March 31, will thus be extended until further notice,” reads the company’s statement.

Customers who expect to have a difficult time paying their bills are asked to make a payment arrangement through the Hydro-Québec website or by calling customer services (1-888-385-7252.)

The company also announced that there will be no planned service interruptions to carry out work on the power system, except when deemed “absolutely essential.”

According to the company, Hydro-Québec has been preparing for the situation for “the past few weeks” and has stationed employees on the ground to ensure service to all customers.

“At all times, the company will follow instructions from government authorities and will continue to act responsibly to limit the spread of the virus,” concluded the statement.
