Hurricane Dorian reached the Maritimes and it’s already caused destruction and mass power outages in Nova Scotia.
The former Category 5 storm is responsible for the deaths of 43 people in the Bahamas and caused devastating damage this week.
At 6:15 pm on Saturday, the storm, – classified as a Category 2 “Pst-Tropical” storm by this time – made landfall about 25 km south of Halifax.
UPDATE: Post-Tropical Dorian has made landfall at 615 PM AST near Sambro Creek in Nova Scotia, Canada, or about 15 miles (25 km) south of Halifax. The estimated maximum sustained winds at landfall were 100 mph (155
km/h) & the estimated central pressure was 958 mb (28.29 inches). pic.twitter.com/o34TP42RFD— National Hurricane Center (@NHC_Atlantic) September 7, 2019
Nova Scotia Power reported outages affecting more than 330,000 customers and the company is reminding the public to stay away from downed wires and poles.
Pictures and videos shared on social media show the powerful winds have caused trees to fall, and debris is now littering the streets.

What a mess! Preston St. In the south end of #Halifax. The expression “You can’t get there from here” applies. I spoke with a home owner who had a tree crash into their home. The story coming up later today on @weathernetwork pic.twitter.com/XmDP77ZCEd

Don’t often see this side of a tree. Beautiful tree lined Robie St. A little worse for the wear to say the least. Losing a majestic tree can be an emotional loss too. #Halifax #Dorian pic.twitter.com/bkxxWnKIF1
