Montreal's Lantern Festival announces new reservation format for this summer

Since the Gardens of Light Lantern Festival has attracted a record number of visitors in recent years, Espace pour la vie, Montreal’s museum district, has announced that tickets for the exhibition will now be sold for specific times.

This year’s lantern show will be held from September 7 to October 31 at the Botanical Gardens and tickets with designated time slots are now available.

This solution has been incorporated into this summer’s lantern festival so visitors could get the most out of its headlining event:

“Espace pour la vie offers experiences that bring people closer to nature in a setting suited to this kind of connection. The Gardens of Light route leads through three unique cultural gardens, each with a different perspective on the natural splendours that are illuminated. But on some evenings the crowds have been so large that we are unable to offer the intended experience,” explains René Pronovost, Director at Jardin Botanique.

“We believe that this new approach will let visitors get more out of their evening. It’s important for us that people have the time to enjoy some peaceful contemplation without feeling rushed, even if it means selling fewer tickets.”

The new ticket process means that guest will have to reserve a time of their visit and due to the exhibit’s popularity, are recommended to do so well ahead of their planned visit. It will not be possible to visit Gardens of Lights without a reservation.

Tickets for the lantern festival will also include admission to the Botanical Gardens and the Insectarium.

The Gardens of Lights was first held in 1992 and has been gaining more guests every year since. In 2017, 324,000 total visitors turned out for the event.

If you plan on being one of those this summer, you’d best reserve a time slot.

The festival lights up on September 7 and runs every day from 9 am to 9 pm.
