Feb 4 2020, 2:20 pm

Yesterday’s smog warning has subsided but this morning, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Montreal and its surrounding areas.

Montrealers can expect snow and possibly freeing rain for this coming Thursday.

“The snow may change over to freezing rain over Extreme Southern Quebec overnight Thursday night,” states the alert.

The forecasted freezing rain would then change back to snow by Friday morning.

Total snowfall amounts are expected to reach 15 cm on Thursday alone, with total snowfall amounts nearing 23 cm by the end of Sunday.

The statement, issued in the early hours of Tuesday morning, is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Weather alerts have been issued for 21 other regions throughout Quebec, as of Tuesday morning.

The alert notes that since the weather system’s track is still moving, the scenario could still change “significantly.”

Environment Canada urges citizens to continually monitor weather updates and alerts heading into the latter half of the workweek.
