Environment Canada issues 90 km/h wind warning for Metro Montreal

May 4 2018, 9:25 pm

While it may not be torrential rain or the second coming of winter this time around, it looks like Montrealers are still in for some vicious weather.

Earlier this morning, Environment Canada issued a wind warning for Metro Montreal, including:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

The statement gives warning to “strong winds gusting up to 90 km/h” which are expected to develop early in the evening. They will likely diminish overnight and on Saturday morning.

Environment Canada warns that the high winds can easily toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. These wind warnings are only issued when “there is a significant risk of damaging winds.”

As such, it’s recommended that citizens stay alert for flying debris and prepare for potential power outages.
