Entrepreneurs can now audition to appear on next season of Dragons' Den

Dragons’ Den is currently holding virtual auditions for entrepreneurs hoping to appear on Season 16 of the popular Canadian reality TV show.

In a bid to score some high-powered financial backing from any (or all) of the show’s six dragons, entrepreneurs across the country can apply online by filling out a questionnaire and uploading media about your company, business, or service to appear on the show.
Successful businesses will have a chance to earn real investment – from the Dragons’ own pockets, during the show’s upcoming 16th season.

In a phone call with Daily Hive, Dragons’ Den Associate Producer Nicole MacKay offered a few dragon-sized tips for entrepreneurs hoping to nail their virtual audition.
“It’s important that entrepreneurs showcase why the Dragons don’t want to miss out on being a partner. Don’t forget, we’re a TV show,” says MacKay. “We’re looking for visual appeal as well. In the audition, if you can make your pitch visually entertaining, that always helps too.”
MacKay, who says the auditions are “the gateway to the den,” says the show sifts through thousands of applications. “If we think you’ll be a good fit, have a dynamic and unique business or product, and are passionate about what it is you do, we’ll be eager to call you back.”
The auditions are taking place now and will last until the end of March. Pitchers will be notified by then if they’re selected to appear on the show, which shoots in Toronto in April and May.
“From there on out, know your numbers. Dragons are always looking for you to back up numbers. We’re always looking for a passionate backstory that led you to start your business. Feel free to share the human connection. If there’s any way you can convey your pitch to the TV audience at a national level, we’ll want to hear it.”
In regards to the ongoing pandemic, especially as travel bans get stricter, MacKay says the option to audition and pitch virtually opens the possibility that entrepreneurs can “pitch from everywhere.”
She said she’s confident the show will be able to “make it work” amid the pandemic — Season 15 was filmed and aired during the first wave of COVID-19.
When it comes to Season 16, Mackay said Dragons’ Den is still “business as usual.”
