After his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023, former Montreal Canadiens captain Pierre Turgeon will receive a special honour at the arena he once called home.

The Canadiens announced Monday that on November 14 — one day after Turgeon is officially inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto — a pre-game ceremony at the Bell Centre will take place as the 54-year-old joins the Canadiens’ Ring of Honor.

Turgeon, a first overall pick in the 1987 NHL Draft pick, played 104 games with the Canadiens over three seasons and was named the 25th captain in the team’s history back in 1995.

His most productive season during his tenure saw him near 100 points, with 38 goals and 58 assists for 96 points in one full season with the Canadiens.

During the Rouyn-Noranda native’s 19-year NHL career, which included stints with several teams, Turgeon played 1,294 games, scoring 515 goals and tallying 812 assists for a total of 1,327 points.

In 109 playoff games, he added 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points.

Turgeon is the 60th member of the Canadiens to be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor. The addition to the arena’s inner wall was made in 2008 in honour of the team’s 100th anniversary.

The last player to join the Ring of Honor was former captain and head coach Guy Carbonneau in 2019, following his own Hall of Fame induction.
