Montreal’s public bike system is gearing up towards their biggest season ever.
According to their open data webpage, Bixi Bikes are at an all-time high for both renters and occasional users in Montreal.
The rental bike program opened on April 15 for the 5th consecutive year and the company has seen a steady increase of usage. This year’s numbers are already on pace to beat last year’s totals which was Bixi Montreal’s most popular year ever.
Below is a breakdown of Bixi’s month-to-month member and user purchases from 2017 and 2018.
The red bars indicate the number of purchases by Bixi members and the black bar indicates the number of purchases by occasional users.
The stats show an increase in overall users for Bixis so far for 2018.
The bikes are being used more by both members and short-term users.
In April 2017, 10,237 members used the bikes, whereas 12,544 have used the bikes in April of 2018.
The same period last year saw 28,348 total trips, while April of 2018 consisted of 31,231 total trips.
Before coming into Bixi’s busy summer months, the increase has put Bixi Bikes on pace to break last year’s plateau of 4.8 million total trips.
For the third year in a row, Bixi Bikes are free to rent on the last Sunday of every month.
