In the words of the wise crab Sebastian from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, “The human world is a mess. Life under the sea is better than anything they got up there.”

Today is World Oceans Day, an international celebration to honour the bodies of water that connect us and make us the “Blue Planet.”

The purpose of this annual initiative is to rally the world to restore our shared oceans through an initiative called the Conservation Action Focus, which aims to protect 30% of the Earth’s land and sea by 2030.

To commemorate World Oceans Day, vacation comparison site My Late Deals has compiled a variety of spectacular underwater photos that show off the vast world that exists under the waves. From the extensive wildlife to the awe-inspiring reefs that they call home, these images provide a welcome reminder as to why it is so crucial that we continue to protect these vital habitats.

From sea turtles in Roatán, Honduras, to a great white shark at Guadalupe Island in Mexico, take a look at these 20 breathtaking underwater images from around the world to celebrate World Oceans Day.
