Breaking up is hard to do, but what if we told you that you could win a chance to mend your broken heart in the beautiful English countryside?
Independent Cottages, a home rental company in the UK, is offering one lucky individual the opportunity to stay for three nights in a Cotswolds cottage inspired by the house from the popular Christmas film The Holiday.
However, there is a catch.
To live like Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz in the film, you must share one crucial thing in common with their characters: you have to have recently gone through a breakup to qualify for the competition.
“At this time of year there’s a heavy focus on perfect couples and happy families,” Sarah Jarvis from Independent Cottages told Mapped, “so, inspired by the storyline of The Holiday, we thought that we would redress the balance and give the spotlight to people who have recently had their heart broken.”
Inspired by Winslet’s character, Iris, the competition seeks to help those who have recently suffered a broken heart by offering them the “perfect festive setting” at the beautiful Farthing Cottage.
The company does not discriminate against how you suffered the heartbreak, though.
If you have ended a relationship that wasn’t working out, were longing for a person that did not feel the same way or, yes, have recently been dumped, you can enter.
The lucky winner will receive a three-night stay at Farthing Cottage in Cotswold for one person.
Additionally, they will be greeted with a “bottle of fizz” as well as a box of chocolates upon their arrival to “indulge in some ‘you time.'”
The cottage will be fully decorated for Christmas, and the owners will ensure that you have everything necessary to enjoy a comfortable, relaxing stay.
The cottage itself comes with a quaint and cozy log burning fire, antique pine furniture, a four-poster bed, stone walls, exposed ceiling beams, and “heaps of old English character.”
Although the cottage is relatively isolated, it is located a short walk from the English market town of Stow-on-the-Wold — which hosts an assortment of restaurants, gastropubs, and independent boutiques — the cottage is in an ideal location for the perfect winter escape.
If you are interested in entering, complete an entry form and submit your story of heartbreak.
Travel costs are not included as part of the prize, and the winner is responsible for organizing their own travel arrangements to the cabin.
Information regarding the full list of terms and conditions for the competition can be found here.
The competition closes at midnight on Monday, December 2.
