These are the most mind-boggling shots from the polar vortex (VIDEOS)
Now that the polar vortex has passed, those who felt its effects are in the process of thawing out their bodies and posting their mind-boggling photos on social media.
A polar vortex is an upper-level low pressure area lying near the Earth’s poles. This weather system just hit the Northeast and Midwest USA hard, with the deepest blow impacting Chicago, Minneapolis and Iowa.
The polar vortex was also felt in Canada, with temperatures dropping as low as -35°C in Toronto and a town in Ontario clocking in as the coldest place in the world one morning.
The chill is now making its way over to Vancouver on a lesser scale, and you know how us Vancouverites love to freak out about snow.
While the polar vortex caused challenges and tragedies and no one is super eager for it to return, one positive thing to come out of the dramatic deep freeze was some epic photography.
From freezing pasta mid-scoop to bubbles mid-air to the phenomenon known as frost-quakes to the #frozenpantschallenge, it’s safe to say this weather has introduced some firsts to our lives and our Instagram feeds.
Here are the coolest, most chilling photos and videos from the 2019 polar vortex (see what we did there?).
