New York's Legoland Resort now scheduled to open next year

Legoland New York Resort is left to pick up the pieces surrounding the disappointing news of the postponement of its grand opening to 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adhering to guidelines implemented by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as progressing policies and restrictions from federal and local governments, the resort, and its parent company, Merline Entertainment, announced in a press release that the opening would be delayed.

“Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and security of our team, the partners we work with, and the communities we serve,” Stephanie Johnson, Legoland New York Resort’s divisional director, said in the release.

“We are in an unprecedented situation that has affected businesses worldwide. By opening Legoland New York Resort in 2021, we are building an attraction that not only meets our high standards, it also gives our guests the best possible experience.”

Already-purchased tickets, including annual and single-day passes, will remain valid for when the resort opens next year.

As well, those who purchased vacation packages through Legoland Vacations will receive priority when making reservations for the 2021 season.

The resort still plans to go ahead with the hiring over 1,000 “Model Citizens” (employees) to work at the various facilities, and all hourly workers that were offered positions for the 2020 season will be invited back when the venue opens next year.

“We are grateful for the support and understanding from our guests and neighbours as we navigate the challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic,” Johnson continued.
