AIDA Cruises suspends service to US and Canada for the rest of the year

German cruise company AIDA Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & PLC, is suspending all sailings to ports in the United States and Canada for the rest of 2020.

The decision is in response to Canada restricting all cruise calls through the end of October and the United States denying entry for European travellers due to a presidential proclamation.

“AIDA regrets very much that it is not possible to offer guests the unforgettable holiday experience they had hoped for at the moment,” the company explains in a press release. “The focus is now on developing a framework of policies and procedures for a restart. In doing so, AIDA is taking into account the forthcoming openings in European travel.”

The company continues that the health and safety of crew members and guests is its top priority.

Guests with previously booked trips will receive reimbursements for all cancellations by way of a travel voucher with an additional 10% supplemented on the original payment. These credits will be viable for bookings up to December 31, 2021, for the entirety of all AIDA voyages.

For those who would rather a cash refund instead of a travel voucher, AIDA will compensate them upon request to the full value of the initial payment, including the 10% bonus.

More detailed information regarding the travel voucher and other options can be found on the company’s website.
