The number of licensed cannabis retail outlets throughout Toronto is looking to make big climbs this year, as 2020 comes with a promise from the province to remove the cap on brick and mortar storefronts selling the drug throughout Ontario.
Toronto will definitely benefit from the change in approval, but with a cap still in place, here are all the locations the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has listed as potentially opening this year.

Tokyo Smoke
A local venture that went big, the high-end headshop and cafes fell under the Canopy Growth umbrella when they purchased its parent company, Hiku Brands. In November, they announced that it had entered into agreements with Ontario license holders to open 10 more stores, with four in Toronto.

Friendly Stranger
A long-time staple in the city’s cannabis community, Friendly Stranger announced on Thursday that they have licensed their name to six locations across Ontario, with two right here in Toronto.

Sessions on the Beaches
Not a lot is known about this particular brand. It made headlines recently as it fought a city councillor’s objection to its opening in close proximity to a Montessori School. Councillor Brad Bradford even ran a since-deleted petition trying to amend cannabis regulations to include a minimum distance from Montessori Schools.

Part of a joint venture between Aleafia and the Serruya Family, One Plant is looking to open an Ontario location in the iconic Kensington Market.

Zoe’s Cannabis
Zoe’s Cannabis will be joining the fleet of locations opening up along Queen West in Toronto. The business is still waiting for final authorization to open, but has passed the public notice process.

Located close to Osgoode Station and walking distance from a massive movie theatre, this store has a prime location, but not a set opening date.

Meta Cannabis
Part of the rebranded National Access Cannabis (NAC), Meta has a commanding presence in western Canada, though this will be first in Toronto, another store in Kitchener is waiting for approval to open as well.
