An iconic brand is making its return to Canada, and Edmonton is the first city in the country to get a Zellers store.

The discount chain store will call Londonderry Mall home and will take up approximately 60,000 square feet of space on the main floor of the former Hudson’s Bay space.

“This milestone marks a significant moment not only for Canadian retail but also for the Edmonton community. Leyad is the first landlord in Canada to secure a new tenant for the former HBC space among malls housing the department store’s legacy footprint,” a news release stated.

“We are thrilled to bring back a beloved Canadian brand that stirs up nostalgic memories for many of our shoppers, while providing an opportunity to introduce Zellers to a new generation,” said Henry Zavriyev, CEO of Leyad. “This announcement represents a bold step forward in reimagining retail space and responding to community demand with purpose and vision.”

The company says the transformation of the former Hudson’s Bay store, which closed in June 2025, into a vibrant new Zellers location was completed in under two months.

Fans of the retailer got a taste of its return in the summer of 2023, with pop-up locations showing up across the country.

Another exciting business opening is on the way for Edmonton soon, with the popular sandwich chain Jimmy John’s set to open in Edmonton before the end of the year.

The iconic Canadian retailer Peavey Mart is also making an appearance in Alberta this fall, after previously announcing it would be closing at the start of the year.

Zellers was first founded in 1931 before going out of business in 2013.
