Wîhkwêntôwin, also known as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Canada, is a vibrant, centrally located spot in Edmonton, home to some amazing restaurants and food spots in the city.

If you’ve ever been downtown, you’ve definitely been in Wîhkwêntôwin. With river valley views and historic buildings around every corner, there are more than a few things to highlight about this neighbourhood.

However, we’re here to highlight the vibrant food scene in the area, including some of our top stops.

If you’re just starting out your day, looking for something fresh and delicious to keep you energized throughout your activities, we’ve got the spots for you.

Va Caffe is an Italian-inspired cafe concept which opened in 2024 and has since grown to be a popular neighbourhood spot. With focaccia paninis, pizzas, salads, and sweets, this spot has it all for your morning and afternoon cravings.

One of our favourites on the menu easily has to be its Mortadella Panino. With stacked mortadella on a black truffle ricotta, complete with arugula and Parmigiano, you cannot go wrong with this one.

Va Caffe is open every day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., which means this can easily become your new daily tradition.

Another spot in the neighbourhood which is also open daily is Banh Mi Day, a local family-owned Vietnamese restaurant.

From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 8 p.m. on weekends, you can get a taste of this mom and pop sandwich shop in the city. These banh mi sandwiches are ones to beat, with a delicious selection available daily.

Not only that, but if you aren’t craving a sandwich, there are loads of pho and soup options to explore as well.

For evening dining, we have two suggestions with completely different vibes.

Olia, one of Edmonton’s premier Italian restaurants, sits in the Citizen building downtown. It was actually one of the finalists for Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants list in 2025, and was longlisted for the restaurant interior category for the 2025 Dazeen Awards.

But let’s focus on the food, shall we?

This spot is nothing short of classy. With well-thought-out dishes and a tasting menu available, you’re going to have an amazing dining service here, with simple, seasonal ingredients adding up to full, flavourful plates.

If you want something a little bit more low-key, we might suggest Seitans instead.

Seitans offers an entirely plant-based menu filled with items like po-boys, chicken, and pizzas. The gourmet plant-based food takes local ingredients and adds mouthwatering taste without compromising any flavour.

Places to grab a drink in Wîhkwêntôwin

We understand that downtown and Whyte Avenue are the best, if not the only, spots in Edmonton to grab a drink with friends.

Looking for a bar to get a quick beer with your buds? Odd Company Brewing is definitely the place to go. The casual atmosphere and great lineup of drinks are the ideal combination for a perfect night.

Though if you and the girls want to get dressed up for a cute cocktail night, we’d have to suggest Clementine. This intimate and elegant cocktail bar actually turns 10 years old this year, and has consistently put out fantastic, unique flavours throughout its time in the city.

No matter what the occasion calls for, you’re bound to have a good drink in hand, surrounded by even better company.
