WestJet is doubling winter flights from Edmonton to these sunny destinations

We may not be thinking about it now, but winter is on its way, and Edmontonians looking to escape the cold will have a lot more options to head someplace warm.
WestJet has announced it is significantly increasing its service between Edmonton and destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean for the winter season.
The airline says its capacity between Edmonton and sunny destinations will increase by 34 per cent compared with last winter.
That includes twice as many weekly flights between Edmonton and Los Cabos, Mexico, as well as Edmonton and Montego Bay, Jamaica, as it did last year.
The increase comes as WestJet expands its Latin America and Caribbean schedule across Canada, with overall capacity in the region growing by 12 per cent year-over-year.
“As demand for sun travel continues to grow, we’re proud to offer our most comprehensive Latin America and Caribbean schedule yet,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group executive vice-president and chief commercial officer.

“By increasing capacity and continuing to expand access between Canadians’ favourite vacation destinations and the communities they call home, we’re making it easier for more guests to travel where they want, when they want.”
WestJet is also increasing its sun destination capacity by 77 per cent in Saskatoon, 64 per cent in Regina, 26 per cent in Winnipeg and 18 per cent in Calgary, with additional flights and new routes to Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
The additional flights come as the airline scales back some of its U.S. service, including one route out of Edmonton.
Last month, we reported that WestJet had removed its nonstop Edmonton to Atlanta service from its winter schedule.
Edmonton’s service to Atlanta, which had already been previously suspended through Oct. 24, 2026, has since been removed from WestJet’s winter schedule entirely.
