Stunning Alberta spot named among the best national parks in the Rockies

If you’re looking for one of the best national parks in the Rocky Mountains, you won’t have to travel far; you can find one right here in Alberta.

World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, recently released a list of the best national parks in the Rocky Mountains, and to no surprise, Banff National Park made the cut.

The park dates way back to the 1880s, when a set of hot springs, which we now know as Cave and Basin, were discovered, prompting the Canadian government to step in to protect the springs and the surrounding area.

“Snow-capped mountain peaks. Turquoise alpine lakes. Glaciers. Icefields. Canada’s first national park is the epitome of the Rocky Mountains,” World Atlas stated.

Banff is frequently touted as one of the most beautiful spots in Canada, and sometimes even the world, all for good reason. World Atlas noted that the national park welcomed a record 4.51 million visitors in 2025, with its stunning lakes, scenic mountain views, and wildlife spotting opportunities drawing people in from all over the world.

Aside from its natural beauty, World Atlas also pointed out that Banff offers plenty of opportunities to experience the Rocky Mountains, from driving along the Icefields Parkway to hiking trails with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, or exploring Banff Avenue within the town.

Banff was the only Canadian destination to make the cut. The other national parks included Yellowstone National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Glacier National Park.
