
The University of Alberta is once again raking in accolades, with an impressive ranking in the world’s best schools in major subject areas.
According to the annual listings from QS World University Rankings, U of A ranked in the top 100 for Life Sciences & Medicine.
While this website also crowns a winner overall each year, it releases other reports, such as a breakdown by subjects, to help prospective students pick their perfect school.
According to the rankings, the University of Toronto was Canada’s top school for Life Sciences and Medicine, placing 13th globally. At 25th, the University of British Columbia was the country’s second-best, followed by McGill University, ranking 27th globally.

The U of A also ranked in the top 150 in nearly all other subjects, placing 102nd in Natural Sciences, 112th in Engineering and Technology, and 160th in Arts and Humanities.
“This year’s rankings are our biggest yet, with 171 institutions included this year who were not present in the 2024 edition,” said QS World University Rankings.
“Several subjects, including medicine, computer science and information systems, and materials science now feature more ranked institutions than ever before.”
QS Top Universities 2025 world rankings placed the University of Alberta at 96th globally and fourth in Canada.
U of A has also previously ranked as North America’s leading university in tackling the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), according to a ranking by Times Higher Education (THE), a British magazine specializing in higher education issues.
