The top 10 spots in Edmonton you're most likely to get a speeding ticket

Jul 19 2023, 6:24 pm

Few things bring Edmontonians closer together than cheering on the Oilers and our hatred of photo radar.

Edmonton is notorious for its use of photo radar on city streets and some places catch drivers far more often than others.

Of course, it’s critical to drive responsibly and obey the speed limit, but sometimes the limit changes from 90 to 60 km/h a little too quickly, and you find a bill in your mailbox with a photo of your car the following week.

Data pulled from the City of Edmonton’s open data site by Edmonton Journal reporter Matthew Black found that since January 2019, just two intersections in the city have accounted for more than 20% of all automated tickets issued in the 69 locations investigated.

Just one intersection, the southbound lanes at 127th Street and 126th Avenue, recorded 156,565 tickets, accounting for more than 11% of all tickets, according to Black’s reporting.

The second highest? Gateway Boulevard and 34th Avenue – where 128,473 speeding and red light tickets have been issued since the start of 2019.
