Jul 20 2023, 7:11 pm

One of Alberta’s hottest music festivals returns next month and we have compiled a few major tips for a first-timer hitting up Big Valley Jamboree (BVJ).

BVJ, Canada’s premier camping music festival is happening from August 3 to 6 in Camrose and it’s not only packed with amazing live music, but it will also be home to food trucks, drink vendors, artisan shopping, and more.

If this is your first time checking it out, we have rounded up some tips to help ensure you have a great time!

Show up early

If you want to guarantee a smooth unpacking at a campsite or parking, we suggest getting to the grounds nice and early to beat the crowds and set up camp when there are very few people around. Trust us, you’ll have a much smoother day to enjoy all the live music.

Pack different kinds of footwear/clothing

The weather can be pretty unpredictable in Alberta, especially in the heart of summer! Pack a couple of footwear options, and we suggest keeping some rubber boots or shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, just in case it rains! You best be throwing a rain jacket or rain poncho in your travel bag, too.

Wear PLENTY of sunscreen

One of the more common sense tips for Big Valley Jamboree is to pack and wear plenty of sunscreen, and we can’t stress enough how important that is. If you think you packed too much sunscreen, throw two more bottles into your bag. Being outdoors enjoying the shows means plenty of sun exposure and plenty of reapplying! No one wants to look like a lobster in front of Morgan Wallen.

Bring extra cash for the marketplace

On top of all the stellar acts to see, BVJ is also showcasing a variety of vendors and makers in the Marketplace Tradeshow. Shop for the latest merchandise and unique crafts, and don’t miss your opportunity to pick up something new to wear during the weekend.

Don’t forget the bug spray

The start of August is prime bug season and being outdoors enjoying music from dawn until dusk, you are bound to be an easy target for mosquitos. If you don’t want to walk away from the BVJ weekend with more insect bites than you can count, don’t forget to pack the bug spray!

Obviously, the most important tip of them all — HAVE FUN!

You can grab your tickets online and get ready for an epic weekend!
