Taylor Hall celebrated with ex-Edmonton Oilers teammate during day with Stanley Cup
The wait for Taylor Hall is finally over.
On Thursday, the former Edmonton Oilers first overall pick celebrated his day with the Stanley Cup. And hey, it only took 989 career regular-season games, seven NHL stops, a Hart Trophy win, and multiple significant injuries before he got there.
While veterans every day celebrate a long-awaited day with the Stanley Cup, Hall’s journey was certainly unique. But, to the veteran’s credit, he elevated his game for the Hurricanes en route to their Cup win. Hall finished second on Carolina with 19 postseason points. He also netted the Stanley Cup-clinching goal.
As he celebrated the day in Ontario’s Lake Muskoka region, Hall was joined by one of his ex-Edmonton Oilers teammates.

“Ever since I was a kid, all Iāve wanted to do is win a Stanley Cup, but getting to watch one of my best buddies accomplish that dream is about as close as it gets,” Sam Gagner posted on his Instagram.

The former Oilers duo also had some fun with their Stanley Cup photos, with Sam’s wife, Rachel Gagner, posting a photo with the captions “eyes only” and “do not pet.”

Hall and Gagner spent four seasons playing together with the Oilers. Gagner was traded in 2014 for Teddy Purcell, while Hall was dealt in 2016 during the ill-fated Adam Larsson trade.
For Hall, his best seasons in Edmonton came while playing alongside Gagner. Hall posted 130 points in 120 games during Gagner’s last two seasons with the Oilers. After Gagner’s departure, Hall had 103 points in 135 games in his final two seasons for Edmonton.
While Gagner was present for Hall’s Cup celebration, a current member of the Oilers was also spotted.

Connor Murphy posed for a photo with Hall. The current Oilers defenceman spent a couple of seasons as Hall’s teammate during their time together with the Chicago Blackhawks. Nick Foglino was also seen with Hall.
Aside from hanging with former teammates, Hall’s day with the Cup included a stop at Tim Hortons, a trip to Bracebridge Arena to let fans see the Cup, and a two-hour cruise through Lake Muskoka.
