Starbucks gives a major upgrade to some of its Alberta locations
Starbucks has refreshed several of its Alberta locations over the past few months as part of its global plans to get back to its coffeehouse roots.
The coffee giant has been refreshing locations all over Canada in what it has dubbed “uplifts,” redesigns aimed at giving Starbucks customers more physically welcoming spaces to hang out.
Two of those reimagined stores are in Calgary, located at Deerfoot Meadows and Southcentre Mall. A third Alberta location at 20 Sharpe Ave. in Red Deer also received a makeover as part of the plans.
The transformations are all about harkening back to Starbucks’ roots as a neighbourhood coffee house where people can relax and connect.
The focus is on design elements like seating, which have been upgraded with cozier options such as couches and armchairs that invite guests to stick around, and the inclusion of warmer colours and textures.

Starbucks has sourced neighbourhood-inspired art, photography, and design elements, redesigned its espresso bars to give customers a view of each beverage being crafted, and improved its order flow with dedicated spaces for customers ordering ahead using the app.
The coffee chain has already kicked off its uplifts at thousands of locations across the U.S. and Canada, with more to come over the next few years.
