Edmonton’s longest-running winter festival, the Silver Skate Festival, is back in a new location this February.
The Silver Skate Festival has been a favourite event for over 30 years, celebrating winter sports, art, music, food, and the best in winter recreation.
Usually, the festival transforms Hawrelak Park into an unforgettable winter experience, but as the park is closed until 2026 for rehabilitation, Silver Skate will take place this year at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park.
Visitors to the Silver Skate Festival will have the chance to glide along the City’s free public skating surfaces, marvel at the artistic talent on display in the Snow Sculpture Garden, or choose to explore the Folk Trail.
Each night of the 10-day festival, a different fire sculpture burns to “celebrate renewal and the release of thoughts that make us sad or any fear or regret that chases love from our hearts.”

“We invite everyone to rediscover the joy of that first childhood snowfall or discover that joy for the first time,” the Silver Skate Festival says.
