Sensory-friendly Santa experience returning to Kingsway Mall in Edmonton

Dec 5 2019, 8:58 pm

Edmonton’s Kingsway Mall is hosting its free sensory-friendly Santa Claus experience again this year.

The special times with Santa are designed to accommodate children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, other sensory processing disorders, or mobility needs. These kids often have trouble with loud noises, bright lights, and crowds ā€” which are common in shopping centres.

Kingsway Mall is hosting the sensory-friendly Santa experiences on December 8 and 15 after the mall closes to customers. The lights will be dimmed and music turned off to create a calm environment.

“Kingsway is committed to accommodating as many families as possible each year and plans to open more dates up if the available appointment times become full,” the mall said in a news release.

The experience is free, but interested families need to make an appointment by contacting Guest Services.
