Reservations for Summer 2020 camping at Alberta parks to open this month

Mar 3 2020, 9:29 pm

Winter might still be plaguing our forecasts, but that doesn’t mean we can’t set our sights on brighter skies and warmer days.

Anyone who enjoys having those beautiful Rocky Mountains in their own backyard will want to get onto the Alberta Parks website this month, as reservations are set to open for summer camping at the prime spots around the province.

Comfort camping reservations will become available online as of 9 am on March 10, individual campsites on March 17, and group camping on March 24.

The regions will be staggered for individual campsite reservations on March 17 to protect the website from crashing. Here’s the schedule, according to a release from the Province of Alberta:

  • South region at 9 am
  • Kananaskis Country at 11 am
  • Central region at 1 pm
  • Northwest/east regions at 3 pm

2020 marks the first time that the reservations on Alberta Parks’ website will be available 365 days a year, as well as seeing email reminders sent out to would-be campers to remind them of cancellation windows, advisory updates, and event information.

Those who are reserving will also be able to pay with Visa and Mastercard debit cards.

However, Alberta’s campers may have a little less selection this year, as the Province of Alberta has announced that it will be closing or partially closing 20 sites and is looking to sell another 164.

Campsite booking fees have also increased by $3 for most campsites, an extra $1 for power, water, sewers, and shower fees, and $10 for some group or comfort camping sites.

A list of sites proposed for sale or closure can be found here.
