The Edmonton Oilers have parted ways with veteran Corey Perry after losing the veteran to another team in free agency.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that the 40-year-old Perry was finalizing a new contract with the LA Kings. He will be reunited with former Oilers GM Ken Holland with the Kings, who initially brought him to Edmonton midway through the 2023-24 NHL season.
L.A. announced that they signed the wily veteran to a one-year deal with a cap hit of $3.5 million.

There was interest in both the Oilers and Perry to bring him back to Edmonton for another season, but the two sides could not agree on an extension. The Oilers are working with around $4.5 million in cap space right now and most likely want to use that money to get a younger, more skilled player into the forward group.
Perry is coming off a magnificent season that defied his age, scoring an impressive 19 goals in 81 regular-season games. He was also one of the Oilers’ best players in the playoffs, notching 10 goals and 14 points in 22 games during their run to the Stanley Cup Final.
With Perry gone, all eyes will now shift to Connor Brown, who is reportedly looking for more money and term than the Oilers are willing to give him.
