Corey Perry says he is open to returning to the Edmonton Oilers

Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid aren’t the only contributors for the Edmonton Oilers who need a new contract.

McDavid still has one year remaining on his contract, though until an extension is signed, there will be plenty of speculation surrounding his future. As for Bouchard, he is set to become an RFA on July 1.

The Oilers have a number of UFAs as well, including Connor Brown, who has been a big contributor to this team since signing ahead of the 2023-24 season. That said, the most intriguing UFA of all is 40-year-old Corey Perry.

Despite being healthy scratched on more than one occasion on last year’s run to the Stanley Cup Final, the Oilers chose to sign the veteran forward to another one-year contract.

The decision worked out great, as Perry scored 19 goals during the regular season and had an even better 10 tallies in just 22 playoff outings. Suddenly, it feels like bringing him back is a big need for the Oilers, and luckily for them, he seems more than open to returning.

“I would love to stay here,” Perry said. “I’ll let the higher-ups do the rest of the talking and do all that. I thought I went out and left everything on the ice, everything I could give. I let that do a lot of the talking. We’ll see where it goes, and hopefully we’re back.”

At this point, Perry is looking for the team that he believes gives him the greatest chance to win the Stanley Cup. While the entire Oilers team is heartbroken with their second-straight Cup Final loss, it has to sting even more for Perry, who has now played in five of the last six Cup Finals, losing each time.

That is certainly a trend the 2010-11 Hart Trophy winner will want to change next season, whether it be with the Oilers or elsewhere.
