RCMP say one man is dead and another is missing after a canoe they were in capsized over the weekend in Kananaskis Country.

Cochrane RCMP say Mounties were dispatched on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. to a call of a capsized canoe on Barrier Lake, Kananaskis. There were three occupants in the canoe.

A 56-year-old woman was located and transported to hospital with hypothermia. A 60-year-old man was found deceased, and a 30-year-old male is still missing. All three canoe occupants are Calgary residents.

Police added that searches have not been successful in locating the missing male so far, and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will be commencing a search for the missing male at 10:30 a.m. this morning.

People are asked to avoid the area to allow responding crews to work safely.

“RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” it added in a news release.

Barrier Lake is approximately one hour west of Calgary.
