Edmonton Oilers unveil brand-new outdoor watch party

Edmonton Oilers fans have been so eager to support the team during this year’s playoffs that they have forced the team to add another outdoor watch party.

There are already two areas outside the arena where fans can watch playoff games. The Ice District Plaza hosts the “Moss Pit” just south of Rogers Place, while the Ice District Fan Park lies east of the arena and features a tent for fans to crowd into and watch.

It turns out those areas weren’t enough to meet the demand of Oilers fans wanting to get in on the fun. At the last two home games, both areas reached capacity either before puck drop or shortly thereafter.

To help solve this problem, the Oilers have added a third area to watch games. The Fan Park will now be split into two distinct areas, with the original one staying where it originally was, while another area is added just north of it.

This new watch party, dubbed “Fan Park North,” will be accepting fans starting Thursday night to watch the Oilers potentially eliminate the LA Kings in Game 6.

“To ensure even more fans can cheer on the Edmonton Oilers in Ice District, we are happy to introduce a second watch party experience at the Play Alberta Fan Park lot,” the Ice District Instagram shared on social media.

“The additional space, accessible via 105 Avenue, will feature the live game stream, food trucks and bars. ”

Similar to the original Fan Park, this new area will be free of charge and for all ages. Fans wanting to check it out will need to sign up for a free Oilers Loilty Rewards Membership. There will also be no access to the Molson Hockey House tent through this new area.

Rather than accessing the Fan Park North from 104 Avenue, like the other two areas, fans are asked to go behind Rogers Place along 105 Avenue to gain entry.

Both Fan Parks and the “Moss Pit” will open 90 minutes before puck drop.

There is no telling how quickly this new area will fill up, so if you want to guarantee your spot in the downtown party, you should probably arrive before they open the doors.
