The Edmonton Oilers will be adding a new jersey to the rotation this season, and it could be revealed later this month.
It was reported by 880 CHED’s Brenden Escott earlier this week that the jersey was real and slated to see action for the Oilers this season. Now, it appears that the reveal could be coming next week at the Oilers Fan Day event on Sept. 20.
Edmonton Sports Talk’s Tom Gazzola, who has been plugged into this jersey news for months now, sent out a cryptic tweet on Wednesday, strongly insinuating that the jersey reveal is coming soon.
“If you’re into new alternate NHL uniforms, I’m hearing Fan Day on Sept. 20 will be pretty revealing,” Gazzola wrote.

With the reveal seemingly right around the corner, fans may not have to wait that long to see, as an alleged leak of the new jersey may have spoiled the surprise.
An Instagram user under the handle of @kailer.memeamoto posted a photo on Wednesday afternoon of what appears to be the Oilers’ new alternate jersey hanging up.

Rumours have swirled around a new Oilers alternate jersey for months now. The first hints of the third jersey came back in January, when Gazzola spoke about it on an episode of The Oil Stream.
In that episode, Gazzola confirmed that he had seen the jersey himself and seemingly implied that it was going to be white with orange and blue accents. The alternate uniform will apparently feature a brand new logo as well, and not the iconic Oilers mark.
The veteran reporter did suggest that the new logo will be a wordmark of some kind, but not in the diagonal style of the New York Rangers.
Further, Gazzola also said that this was going to be a completely original design and wouldn’t be a throwback of any kind. This means that fans of the old copper and blue jerseys of the 1990s and early 2000s are likely out of luck once again.
All of these details line up with the leaked photo, giving it some credibility that it could be the real deal. The Edmonton Oilers have yet to acknowledge the existence of the jersey.
Jersey reveals are always contentious, no matter the team, but it will be interesting to see how Oilers fans react to adding a brand-new design to a set that already hosts a pair of iconic uniforms.
