The Edmonton Oilers have made it to the Stanley Cup Final in each of the last two seasons, but they have yet to sneak their way into the modern zeitgeist.
You would think that Leon Draisaitl, having been one of the NHL’s best players over the course of his career, would be a household name by now. The 29-year-old has four 50-goal campaigns, a Hart Trophy, and is already considered the best German hockey player of all time.
Yet, when his name came up in a Jeopardy! clue on Tuesday night, nobody seemed to know which team he played for. The clue asked which team Draisaitl played for, and the only answer any of the three candidates could muster was “the Winnipeg Jets.”
It seems like hockey knowledge was a blind spot for this trio.

The Jets would love to have Draisaitl on their team, but alas, they will have to be content with their core as the German is locked down in the Alberta capital for the next eight seasons.
That wrong answer came from Jeopardy! contestant Ian Morrison, and despite erring on that particular question, he eventually came out victorious in that game. At the time, however, he nearly blew his entire winnings, losing $600 and bringing his total down to $200 on the night. Morrison, an airline ramp agent from Colorado, eventually walked away with $22,009.
This isn’t the first time that the Oilers have appeared in a Jeopardy! clue. The northernmost NHL team were featured in a game back in 2021 that alluded to their 1980s dynasty.
Unlike this time, a contestant named Dennis got it right with the correct answer.

The goal for the Oilers this season is to finally complete the job and bring the Stanley Cup back to Edmonton. Hopefully, in turn, that will make their next Jeopardy! clue a little easier for the contestants.
