Edmonton Oilers fans got some bad news halfway through Game 5 of the Western Conference Final, and it wasn’t a goal against.
With the Oilers fighting for a berth in the Stanley Cup Final, fans have gathered in downtown Edmonton for various watch parties outside of Rogers Place. Things were looking good after 40 minutes as Edmonton held a lead, but Mother Nature put a damper on things.
A severe thunderstorm alert was issued for the Alberta capital, prompting watch party organizers to cancel the event in progress and tell fans to leave the area. A fan at one of these watch parties told Offside that the event was cancelled soon after the second period.
The watch parties cancelled included the FanPark East of the Arena, FanPark North, as well as the Moss Pit directly South of Rogers Place.
