Connor Brown is still finding ways to help the Edmonton Oilers even as he sits out of the lineup due to injury.

Brown was forced to miss Game 4 of the Western Conference Final after taking a massive hit from Alex Petrovic during the prior outing, and will remain out of the lineup for Game 5 on Thursday evening.

The loss of Brown is a big one, as the 31-year-old had been putting together a very impactful postseason with five goals and eight points through 14 outings. On top of his impressive two-way play, he’s also a beloved member of the Oilers dressing room, and a quick moment caught on video prior to Game 5 shows exactly why.

Before the game began, head coach Kris Knoblauch gave his team a speech before calling on Brown to announce the starting lineup. There was some confusion on several players’ faces as it didn’t appear that Brown was in the dressing room. Immediately after being called upon, however, he came out from a cabinet beneath the whiteboard, much to the excitement of his teammates.

“The show goes on!” said a very energetic Brown. “We got Kaner! Rico! Kappy! Doc! Kuly! Skins in the pipes! Let’s f*cking go!”

Oilers players were absolutely loving it, with cameras capturing several reactions, including those of Evan Bouchard, Stuart Skinner, Leon Draisaitl, and Connor McDavid, who were all seen with big grins on their faces.

It certainly seemed to motivate the Oilers, who were able to get a goal from Leon Draisaitl just past the halfway point of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. They would go on to win the game by a 4-1 final to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Dallas Stars.

With the big win, the Oilers now have the opportunity to eliminate the Stars and advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight year. Though Brown won’t play in Thursday’s game, it sounds as though there is a good chance he’s ready to return to action shortly after.
