The Edmonton Oilers have made another goalie trade.
Following Connor Ingram’s choice to head into free agency, Oilers GM Stan Bowman has shifted gears with a trade to bring in another netminder. In the midst of the chaos of the opening day of free agency, the Oilers announced that they had acquired young goaltender Devon Levi and a 2028 seventh-round pick in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres.
Edmonton gave up a 2028 third-round pick in the deal.

Levi is a former seventh-round draft pick of the Florida Panthers back in 2020, but he has been with the Sabres organization since 2021 after being involved in the Sam Reinhart trade.
The 24-year-old was once thought to be the future starting goaltender for the Sabres, but he has struggled to make the jump to the NHL full-time. He has a total of 39 NHL games under his belt, having last played in the league during a nine-game stint with the Sabres during the 2024-25 season.
Instead, the majority of his playing time has come with the AHL’s Rochester Americans, where Levi has had some success. Over the past two AHL seasons, Levi has posted a .911 save percentage along with a 48-33-13 record over 94 games.
At the moment, it would appear that Levi is set up to graduate to the NHL full-time as Edmonton’s backup goalie to Tristan Jarry.
It’s certainly a risky move considering Levi’s lack of NHL experience, but you can’t deny that he has the potential to grow into a starting goalie in the Alberta capital. Edmonton appeared to be targeting a younger goalie this offseason and was reportedly interested in bringing Sebastian Cossa aboard before he was traded to the Utah Mammoth.
It remains to be seen if Bowman is content with rolling the dice on Levi or if another goalie move is on the way.
