The Edmonton Oilers were in a good spot heading into the third period of Game 3 against the Dallas Stars, but they may have lost an important player in the process.
With a 3-1 lead going into the final frame, the Edmonton bench had a noticeable gap among its forwards. Connor Brown, one of the Oilers’ most impressive players in the playoffs, had left the game.
This was due to taking a high hit from Stars defenceman, and former Oilers player, Alex Petrovic in the second period. On replay, Petrovic appears to leave his feet for the hit and catches Brown up high in the head area. No penalty was called on the play, and Brown left down the tunnel shortly after the hit.

Losing Brown for any amount of time would be a big loss for the Oilers’ depth scoring. The 31-year-old has been on a heater through the first three rounds of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring five goals and eight points through 13 games.
There were questions about his health going into the Western Conference Final as he had skipped a few practices in the lead-up to Game 1 for maintenance reasons.
Other depth players such as Adam Henrique, Corey Perry, and Mattias Janmark will have to step up their game if Brown winds up missing games. This could also give a player like Viktor Arvidsson a chance to draw back into the playoff lineup.
