The iconic Edmonton Oilers dynasty group from the 1980s is set to be the subject of a new five-part docuseries.

The Oilers, who won five Stanley Cups between 1984 and 1990, had a roster that featured many of the best players ever, including Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and Grant Fuhr.

Oilers fans will soon get to relive those glory days, as Ryan Reynolds’ production house, Maximum Effort, is beginning to put together a docuseries titled The Great Ones, which they’ve described as “an unprecedented look at the lives and careers” of many Oilers players who had an integral role in those Stanley Cup championships.

The show will include interviews with players such as Gretzky and Messier, several rival players, broadcasters, and other behind-the-scenes members who were along for the ride.

As eager as fans will be to tune in to watch the series featuring one of the NHL’s greatest dynasty teams, they will need to remain patient, as it isn’t set to be released until the winter of 2027.

This isn’t the first time Reynolds, who hails from Vancouver, has put together a sports docuseries. He also produces Welcome to Wrexham, which released its fourth series a week ago.

Unfortunately for the Oilers, getting back to those glory days has been no easy task. They’ve gone to two Stanley Cups since, one in 2006 and the other just last year, but fell just shy of their goal in each, losing in Game 7 to the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers, respectively.

The Oilers are once again back in the mix to attempt to snap their lengthy Cup drought this year, as they are currently going toe-to-toe with the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final.
