A HUGE new park with exciting features is coming to southwest Edmonton

Even more recreational space is on the way for Edmontonians, with a brand-new park containing a range of amenities planned for the city’s southwest.
The City of Edmonton is preparing to start construction on the new Windermere District Park, bordered by 170th Street to the west, Rabbit Hill Road NW to the south and east, and 21st Avenue in the north.
Prep work on the park designed to serve the Windermere communities began in mid-January. While the City hasn’t provided a timeline yet, the park is being developed alongside a new Edmonton Public School for those in gradesĀ 7 to 12, set to open in 2028.

Plans for the park include a mix of sports fields, pathways, and open green space. A draft design presented during public engagement last fall included soccer fields, football fields, ball diamonds and a cricket pitch, along with seating areas and a small picnic or gathering space.

Space has also been set aside for a future Grade 10 to 12 Edmonton Catholic School, City of Edmonton recreation facility, and transit centre. However, the timing on those is TBD as they aren’t currently funded. In the meantime, the reserved areas will be graded and planted with grass.
